Laura designed our new tapestry inspired by the abundance of foragable food that hides in wild places. This tapestry is for all the woodland folk who love nothing more than walking home with their foraging basket full of delicious goodies, ready to get cozy and cook up a feast!
The design is a celebration of wild food and we hope it transports you to a grand feast in the forest, where you can indulge in all of nature’s treats. There are 23 forageable plants in total and we’ve included a botanical card with each order to help you identify their names too! There is also a handpainted foraging basket sticker and handwritten card with each order.
In the corners sit squirrels and mice tucking into their berries and acorns. Rosemary borders the edges of the tapestry. This tapestry would be perfect in the home as a symbol of abundance, used in ceremonies, picnics, or simply bring it along to your safe space in nature and wrap it around yourself to stay warm and cozy like a rabbit in its burrow!
Below are the many ways the tapestry can be used.
USES:
-Throw: You can drape your tapestry over your bed or sofa. It is thick enough to offer heat on cold days but cool enough to use in summer too! It is 72” X 54” so perfect for double beds.
-Wall Hanging: This tapestry looks super enchanting hung up on a wall; simply use push pins or nails. It will not damage the tapestry at all, just poke the pin through the gaps IN BETWEEN the woven threads. You will need around 6 pins to hold your tapestry up in landscape or 6 to hold it up portrait.
-Rug: The tapestry looks amazing when used as a rug, washing instructions are detailed below. Just be sure to keep sharp objects away from the tapestry as it is intricately woven so they could snag the threads.
-Blanket: The tapestry is so soft and feels wonderful to wrap around yourself! It is woven tightly so will keep the breeze off of your skin, making you feel nice and cosy.
-Table Cover: This tapestry looks amazing draped over a table for a whimsical foraged feast! You can wash the tapestry after, see the washing instructions below. If using candles, put little plates below to catch the dripping wax as removing melted wax from the tapestries can be tedious.
-Picnic Rug: It is the perfect size to use as a picnic mat, with a thick, tight weave that cushions you from the earth or sand below. Afterwards the blanket can be shaken off or washed, see below for washing instructions.
Pick one or use it in all these different ways, in any case we hope your tapestry transports you to the Wildside!
Please note these tapestries are incredibly intricately woven so should be used gently to avoid snagging the threads. Be careful not to let cats and dogs scratch it or to catch the threads on clothing or furniture etc.
THE DESIGN:
The design has a woven patchwork pattern (not actual patchwork) including 23 of our favourite forageable foods which you may well have foraged for before including:
Wild Garlic, Blackberry, Elderberry, Nettle, Chanterelle, Wild Strawberry, Apple, Bilberry, Porcini and Sweet Chestnut
Squirrels and mice are nestled in the corners of the tapestry and there’s a rosemary and acorn border around the edges.
The front of the blanket has a brown background with muted autumnal tone diamonds, each with a forageable plant in the centre. Colours include: dusky rose, sand, dark khaki green, dark pear and creamy terracotta.
The reverse side of the blanket has a bright blue background with lilac and teal diamonds.
Please note that colours may appear slightly different from the images.
WHERE ITS MADE:
We want to be totally transparent with this as there is far too much exploitation of people, animals and the earth in the textile industry. The tapestries were woven in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, USA, by a small independent textile mill called FiberArt. FiberArt are a family operation who specialise in high quality, long lasting, ethically and environmentally woven tapestries. They use recycled cotton threads in their weaving looms and any fabric waste produced on their site is recycled back into more threads for weaving!
FIBRE CONTENT:
The tapestries are woven with a blend of cotton and recycled cotton threads. The recycled cotton threads contain trace amounts of polyester fibre for strength. 100% Vegan. The tapestries are super soft and not itchy in any way. They come prewashed and only get even softer with age! They are of very high quality and are intricately woven by experienced weavers.
